MTFC Recreational Soccer FAQ Spring 2016

Q: When is registration?
A: Online Registration for the MTFC Spring 2016 season opens January 6th, 2016 and will officially close February 28th, 2016.  In-person sign-ups will be held February 6th, 13th and 20th at the Moss Wright Park Soccer Complex in the conference room adjacent to the concession stand.  Registration received between February 21st and February 28th will be added to a waiting list and placement on a team is NOT guaranteed.

Q: How much are the registration fees?
Standard registration fees are $110 for all divisions. Families will receive a $10 per child discount for registering during our early registration period (January 6th thru January 25th).  Registration fees increase to $130 during our late registration period (February 21st thru February 28th).  For families with more than one player playing in MTFC, there is a $10 discount that is applied for each additional player.  There is also an additional $10 discount for returning players who can re-use their uniform from the Fall 2015 season.

Q: What do my registration fees pay for?
A: All fees paid to MTFC will cover the following: jersey, shorts and socks for all Recreational players; Referee costs; City of Goodlettsville player fees for the maintenance and upkeep of the fields and soccer complex; and insurance to cover all registered players under TSSA requirements.

Q: When will I hear from a Coach?
Players are assigned to teams following an evaluation period during the first week of practices.  All players within a division will practice together throughout the season.  The practice schedule for each division will be posted to the league website following the coaches meeting.

Q: When will the season start?
Practices begin the week of February 29th. Players shall report to the first practice according to the practice schedule posted on the league website.

Q: How many times a week will my child practice?
SoccerRoos (U4) teams practice once a week, for 45 - 60 minutes; U6 practices twice a week, for 60 minutes; U8 -  U10 practice twice a week for 60 - 75 minutes and U18 practices twice a week for 90 minutes.

Q: When are games?
A: Most games are scheduled for Saturdays, with the first games beginning at 9:00. There are two scheduled make-up dates for the Spring 2016 season on Sunday afternoons.  In the event of inclement weather on game days, if the City determines that the fields will be usable later in the morning, then we will operate on a rain delay.  If the City determines that the fields will not be usable until 12:00pm or later, then the games will be cancelled for that day.

Q: Who will be my child's Coach?
A: All MTFC Recreational coaches are volunteer parents. Please contact a Board Member or Division Director if you would like to coach. It isn’t necessary to have played the game, given most of our great coaches today never played the game of soccer.  We’ll help you with the rules, practice drills, etc.

Q: Does MTFC perform background checks on their volunteer coaches?
A: We are all aware of the many issues that face our children, the Tennessee State Soccer Association has worked diligently in the development of an all encompassing Risk Management program designed to protect our most valuable asset, our children. We ask that each coach submit a background check through the TSSA Website. The form can be accessed here:
Q: What items will my child need to play soccer?
A: Your child will need the following; a soccer ball (size depending on the level of play they are in.  Please see your coach for more details), shin guards to be worn at ALL TIMES for the safety of your child, soccer cleats, NOT baseball cleats as these are different and baseball cleats will tear up our fields. You can purchase these at Dicks Sporting Goods or any sporting goods store. A water bottle is also important to bring to keep your child hydrated during all practices/games.

Q: Can I get a refund?
A: Refund requests made prior to team selection will be assessed a $15 processing fee.  Refund requests made after team selection but prior to the second game will be assessed a $30 processing fee and will be required to return any newly distributed uniforms. Refunds will not be given, regardless of the reason, following completion of the second game. (Expenses such as uniforms, registration fees and insurance must be paid by the club at the start of the season; therefore the majority of the registered child’s expenses have already been incurred by the time games begin.)

Q: I would like to be a volunteer for my child's team, what can I do to help?
We are always happy to have parents volunteer to help the team! Please ask your child's coach if you can help assistant coach, or be the team mom, which may involve making up a game day snack schedule for the team or sending out e-mails or making calls to team parents regarding any important team

*ALL AGE GROUPS ARE IN ONE YEAR INCREMENTS. In some instances, we will combined two age groups together (i.e. U7 girls & U8 girls) to form a division, depending on the number of players registered.

Please note, if an age division does not have enough players for the division to be viable, it will be the decision of the Club President, Director of Recreational Play and the Division Directors to combine divisions or cancel the division for the season.
