FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Q: What do my registration fees pay for?

A: All fees paid to MTFC will cover the following: 2 sets of jerseys, shorts and socks for all Recreational players; Referee costs; City of Goodlettsville player fees for the maintenance and upkeep of the fields and soccer complex; Tennessee State Soccer player fees, and insurance to cover all registered players under TSSA requirements.

  • Q: When will I hear from a Coach?

A: Players are assigned to teams following an evaluation period during the first few practices.  All players within a division will practice together throughout the season.  The practice schedule for each division will be posted to the league website following the coaches meeting.  Parents will NOT hear from a coach before the first scheduled division practice.  Please see the practice schedule posted on the league website for practice times and field numbers.

  • Q: How many times a week will my child practice?

    A: U4 and U5 practice once a week, for 45 - 60 minutes; U6 practices twice a week, for 60 minutes; U8 - U14 practice twice a week for 60 - 75 minutes and the high school division practices twice a week for 90 minutes.

  • Q: When are games?

A: Most games are scheduled for Saturdays, with the first games beginning at 9:00 AM.  In the event of inclement weather on game days, if the City determines that the fields will be usable later in the morning, then we will operate on a rain delay.  If the City determines that the fields will not be usable until 12:00 PM or later, then the games will be cancelled for that day.

  • Q: Who will be my child's Coach?

A: All MTFC Recreational coaches are volunteer parents. Please indicate during registration if you would like to coach.  It isn’t necessary to have played the game, given most of our great coaches today never played the game of soccer.  We’ll help you with the rules, practice drills, etc.

  • Q: Can I request a coach or other teammates?

A: MTFC attempts to honor all coaches requests.  Additionally we want players to be able to play with their classmates, friends and family members.  We ask that you add any special requests during the registration process.

  • Q: Does MTFC perform background checks on their volunteer coaches?

A: We are all aware of the many issues that face our children.  The Tennessee State Soccer Association has worked diligently in the development of an all encompassing Risk Management program designed to protect our most valuable asset, our children. We ask that each coach submit a background check through the TSSA Website. The form can be accessed here

  • Q: What equipment will my child need to play soccer?

A: Your child will need the following; a soccer ball (size depending on the level of play they are in), shin guards to be worn at ALL TIMES for the safety of your child, soccer cleats, NOT baseball cleats as these are different and baseball cleats will tear up our fields and could injure other players. You can purchase these at Dicks Sporting Goods, Academy Sports or any other sporting goods store. A water bottle is also important to bring to keep your child hydrated during all practices and games.

  • Q: Can my child play with earrings if they are covered up with band-aids or tape?

A: Player safety is paramount to the MTFC Board and the head referee.  MTFC follows the FIFA laws of the game in regard to player safety which states that:

A player must not use equipment or wear anything that is dangerous.

All items of jewelry (necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, leather bands, rubber bands, etc.) are forbidden and must be removed. Using tape to cover jewelry is not permitted.

The players must be inspected before the start of the match and substitutes before they enter the field of play. If a player is wearing or using unauthorized/dangerous equipment or jewelry the referee must order the player to:

    remove the item

leave the field of play at the next stoppage if the player is unable or unwilling to comply

A player who refuses to comply or wears the item again must be cautioned.

In summary, please remove all earrings prior to the start of the game.

  • Q: Can I get a refund?

A: Refund requests made prior to team assignments will be assessed a $30 processing fee.  Refund requests made after team assignments, but prior to the second game of the season will be assessed a $75 processing fee.  Refunds will not be given, regardless of the reason, after the second game of the season. (Expenses such as uniforms, registration fees and insurance must be paid by the club at the start of the season; therefore the majority of the registered child’s expenses have already been incurred by the time games begin.)

  • Q: I would like to be a volunteer for my child's team, what can I do to help?

A: If you would like to be a head coach or assistant coach, please make the proper selection when registering your child.  We are always happy to have parents volunteer to help the team! Please ask your child's coach if you can help assistant coach, or be the team manager, which may involve making up a game day snack schedule for the team or sending out e-mails or making calls to team parents.
