Wrap-Up of Game #4
Lions Team Parents
We played another terrific game on Sunday
– Great job to everybody
Game Result:
Lions: 12
Giants: 13
Special Note: We had another new player run in a TD score for the team
- That makes 6 different players that have scored TD's for our team this season (Outstanding)
- My goal is for all players on the team to feel the excitement of scoring a TD this season
What When Well:
1. Solid Defense the whole game
Again this week, I was really impressed in how well the kids played on defense; holding their “home” positions, swarming to the RB’s, and pulling flags.
– Great job to everybody
3. Faking the defense w/ our QB "looks"
Also, again this week, when the QB’s gave the “look” at the WR’s on our fake pass plays, the defense really bought the fakes, and went out into WR coverage (this gave us a lot of room for the RB’s to run the ball). I want to keep working on that fake pass “look” in practice.
What we can work on:
1. Scoring our extra points
Our biggest issue in terms of our wins & losses is not scoring points, but scoring our extra points. We've lost our last several games by one point in each game. And in those games, we scored the same number of TD's as our opponents, we're just not converting our extra points. Basiclly we thrive on our big plays, but we can't seem to get 5 yards when we need it. In our next practice, I want to work on how to pick-up those 5 yards on the extra points (also applies for 1st downs as well).
2. QB x RB running hand-off plays
We currently have 2 plays where the QB runs to the WR split wide on the field to hand-off the ball. Unfortunately, these plays just don't seem to be getting the results we want. I think these plays worked well w/ the Pre-K / K division where the defense didn't react very quickly to the ball movement, and we could run right by the defense along the sidelines, but the 1st graders seem to know how to follow the ball and are already waiting for the RB when he gets the ball. I'm just gonna scrap these plays out of our offense and replace them w/ standard pass plays (that I really wanted to use, but didn't get a chance in this week's game)
3. QB x RB exchanges
In this week’s game again, we still had a couple QB x RB exchange miscues. I think by eliminating the QB running handoff plays, we'll simplify our offense to either standing handoff's or passing plays, reduce the confusion at the start of the plays
But again, I want to stress that all the kids played extremely well in this game. We have won and /or been competitive in every game this season
- Realistically, 3 points separates us from being undefeated
- Great job to everyone.
I think that's it for now.
Let me know if you have any questions / concerns.
Go Lions!!
Sincerely,
Greg Thomas
